Comtact has opened a new technology service delivery centre in Northampton, United Kingdom

The state of the art delivery centre, which is uniquely in the same premises as Comtact's Data Centre, will support Comtact's Global information technology (IT) services clients who need managed platform hosting, network support and security services delivered using a full ITIL framework and proactive monitoring systems. In addition to its Network Operations Centre (NOC) function, the environment will also serve as R&D HQ and pre-staging facility for customer solutions.

Comtact will work with the University of Northampton and other colleges and schools that offer IT education in the East Midlands region to recruit and train employees as well as hiring experienced professionals.

The company has committed to create up to 15 new locally based jobs by the end of 2012 as part of its strategy to deliver quality, competitive technology services globally.  Comtact services delivery senior vice-president, Simon Pettit, said 'the company's technology services clients not only need a partner to manage their technology infrastructure, but one that can help them to solve local and global business challenges and uncover new opportunities for growth. The centre here in Northampton will employ the type of professional who can adapt to change, handle complexity and has the necessary analytical and technical proficiency to help our clients accomplish their goals by delivering high-value, quality information technology services.'

Pettit added, 'in an era where internationally outsourced operations is increasingly the norm, we remain proud that our growth is helping aid the UK economy and the East Midlands in particular. Furthermore, our customers greatly prize and demand direct access to highly articulate and skilled problem resolvers and not call loggers, and this location will further deliver to that need'.

Whilst this is very flattering and ties in with our future Global expansion plans, our focus and desire is to remain a UK based company to help power Britain plc through these challenging times.  However into 2013 we will switch focus towards creating a number of engineering centres of excellence providing outsource alternatives to our international customers that require a local touch.'

Comtact recognised as one of the UK's fastest-growing tech companies for the second year in a row

Tech Track 100 2011Comtact has been named as one of the 100 fastest-growing private tech companies in the UK for the second year in a row.  The company came in at number 42 (after being placed 13th in 2010) in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100, which is compiled by Fast Track and published in the newspaper each September with a national award ceremony held in November.

From its launch in 2005, when founder Dominic List remortgaged his flat and sold his car to raise the capital to start the business, Comtact's sales over the last five years have risen on average 87% a year.  Turnover grew from £1.5m in 2007 to £6.8m in 2010 and the company will bill more than £10m this year.

With offices in London, Weybridge and Stoke on Trent, and a network operations centre in Northampton, Comtact provides converged voice, data and networking solutions, such as hosted applications and disaster recovery, on both a national and international scale - this year the company is able to say it has delivered IT projects on five different continents.

Dominic List comments:
"We are delighted to see our rapid growth recognised in this way. Our success has largely been down to the emphasis we place on hiring market-leading technology specialists who take a business analytics approach first, and design bespoke technology solutions to meet the fit closely with the client's requirements.  Our solutions fill a gap in the mid-market for enterprise-size companies that are not getting the standard of service they require from the very largest IT and Telecoms players. We are increasingly punching above our weight to land global enterprise clients such as RBS, Axa and Sage.  I would like to congratulate the whole Comtact team on this achievement."

Comtact's Sales Director Takes on the Three Peak Challenge!

Richard Gravelle takes on 3 PeaksNever one to back away from a challenge, Comtacts Sales Director, Richard Gravelle, is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge on 19th August 2011.  The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland - Ben Nevis, Snowden and Scafell Pike - within 24 hours.

Maximum climbing times are generally suggested at being around 4 hours for Snowdon, and 5 hours for Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike, but anyone taking part in the challenge should aim for a half hour or so under. In itself this time isn't unrealistic for most relatively fit people, but it's certainly not a gentle walk, and when three climbs are required within 24 hours the Challenge becomes more difficult, draining your energy and depriving you of sleep.  This is not a challenge to be taken lightly!

As part of his challenge Richard and his team aim to raise over £2000 for children's charity "In Ministry of Children".    The charity helps bring new life and hope for the children of Colombia! They work with communities in marginal locations, and identify families most at risk due to poverty and violence. They offer support to the parents and provide essentials for the children. They do this through community based programmes and crisis care placements.

Should you wish to sponsor Richard for his challenge please visit his charity page here

JOLYON PALMER IN BATTLE TO WIN F2 CHAMPIONSHIP

Jolyon Palmer battles to take back the lead

The FIA Formula Two Championship reaches its climax at Valencia in Spain this weekend (18/19 September), and Comtact-backed driver Jolyon Palmer will be going head-to-head with rival Dean Stoneman for title honours and a prize test drive with the Williams F1 team.

After leading the championship for much of the season, Palmer will be battling to overturn a 31 point deficit on current first place driver Stoneman following a difficult weekend last time out in Oschersleben. However, the 20-year-old believes coming into the final round in second place could work to his advantage.

"Being second I've nothing to lose really; I've got no pressure on me," he said. "I know the Valencia track quite well and I was quick in the winter test there last year so I'm feeling confident.

"It's been an amazing season, and whatever happens for me it's been the best year of my career. Still there's a bit more to be pushed out of it, and hopefully I can get the prize at the end."

If Palmer successfully secures the F2 title, he will become the first Briton to do so since his father, Jonathan Palmer, clinched the 1983 European Formula Two Championship.

01/06/10 - How Green are you?

This week it is International Green IT Awareness Week, so we thought it was a perfect opportunity to look at your IT network and see how small changes and improvements to your network can make a difference.  Saving energy is actually one of the easiest ways to reduce costs, while at the same time it will enhance your business reputation as people now want to invest in companies with environmentally friendly policies and production methods.

Comtact's specialised Green IT team are able to advise on ways in which you can become more green and to assist your company to reduce its carbon footprint.  From setting your staff up to work from home to virtualisation and data centres, by making small changes to your office processes you can not only do your bit to help the environment but also make some significant savings that can be re-invested back into your business and increase productivity in your staff.

Below are some examples of how small changes can make a big difference to your bottom line:

  • Simply by switching off computers at night and weekends energy consumption can be reduced by 75% a year
  • Turning your thermostat down by just 1°C can knock 10% off the cost of heating your office and you'll be unlikely to notice any difference in comfort. This won't cost you anything and could save your company between £15-£30 a year (the statutory aim for office temperature is 19°C)
  • Lighting an empty office overnight wastes enough energy to heat water for 1000 cups of coffee
  • Switching off all non-essential office equipment (computers, printers, faxes, photocopiers and lights) will save enough energy to drive a small car 100 miles
  • A PC monitor left on overnight wastes enough energy to laser print 800 pages
  • A PC left running for 24 hours per day will use £70 worth of electricity over 12 months - so in a company with 50 computers that would be on average £3500 per annum
  • A photocopier left on overnight wastes enough energy to print 1500 A4 copies

Our generation is producing and disposing of more and more goods than ever before. We're also exploiting and consuming more of the world's finite resources. An inevitable consequence of this is that we are producing increasing levels of global warming gases such as carbon dioxide. We all want to do our bit to protect the environment not only for ourselves but for our future generations as well, why not start today.

After two clear wins at the weekend, Jolyon Palmer, sponsored by Comtact, is set to be the one to beat this season in the F2Jolyon Palmer Celebrates his success

Palmers two clear wins at the weekend and one at Silverstone has catapulted the young star to pole position in the leadership charts, with a clear 12 point win over the second placed competitor.

Palmer's third win of the season now gives him a 12 point advantage in the overall standings.  Palmer says; "This win was more straightforward than yesterday's: there was no safety car, and I just managed to find another gear to drive to the chequered flag. At Marrakech I think Philipp and Dean both thought it was a two horse race for the championship - it's obviously not, I've had a great weekend and it proves the championship is very open. It's great to be leading at this stage but there's a long way to go."

Dominic List, MD of Comtact ‘Jolyon has had a great start to the season, its only his second season within F2, so its a remarkable achievement for a young driver.  Myself and the team at Comtact are avid watchers of the F2 and are pleased to be sponsoring the rising star of F2.'

08/02/2008 - 'Old Guard' going strong

Dominic List, Managing Director of London based reseller Comtact says that in the sub 24 extension PBX market, his company is finding that whilst the old guard (in technology terms) such as Avaya and Mitel are still very strong, which may be down to the resellers experience driving these brands, rather than the respective strengths of the products.

However there does seem to be a continued erosion from the soft switches such as Aastra and to a larger extent Asterix. We are also finding in the sub 10 users that companies are still trying out hosted solutions, to a varying degree of success.

Currently this market still seems quite buoyant and we have no reason to doubt that even in what is promising to be a cooler 2008 that this will continue.

Presence and Outlook integration are still key features in this market, as are the ability for remote VoIP enabled teleworkers. However, so far we have seen no incidences of Microsoft enabled PBX's direct from the manufacturer, although we have seen third party call centre products developed on Microsoft platforms continuing to take market share in this section of the market.

20/11/2007 - Fixed Mobile Convergence - Reseller Feedback

Managing DirectorDominic List - Comtact LtdDominic List, Managing Director of London based reseller Comtact, "In relation to FMC demand, most organisations have shown solid interest, primarily due to the benefit that it would reduce mobile call spend which accounts for a large part of their telecoms and IT spend.

Prospective clients are looking with interest as to which is the most suitable solution to go - either Wi-Fi or GSM technology, both of which have their respective merits and pitfalls. Currently, there has been little uptake due to the faults associated with such a bleeding edge technology, however we believe it will become a prime item of interest in 2008."

13/08/2007 - Broadband Providers not delivering speeds for consumers

Recent research by consumer group Which? Has found that broadband package providers are failing to deliver the connection speeds which they offer to customers.

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has already investigated several cases of misleading advertising whereby customers were not informed that speed availability was dependent upon the distance people lived away from the exchange.

It is expected that with BTs forthcoming 21st Century Network programme which will begin implementation in early 2008, will more than resolve this issue, also providing treble the maximum speed of 8Mbps currently available today.

Over the last month, research by Comtact has found that more and more UK companies are starting to consider the potential impact of having an 0870 phone number.

20/06/2006 - Comtact Attends Le Mans 24hours.

Le Mans: After the last six months of fruitful hard work, MD Dominic List thought it was about time that the Comtact team were treated to even more than their usual commission payments.

The Le Mans 24 Hour Race is unquestionably the ultimate test of racing drivers, race cars and spectators – the latter having to endure eight hour "Gumball" style drives to the event, baking heat, squalid toilet facilities and copious amounts of French beer. A hard life but someone has to do it.

"There are a lot of car enthusiasts in the company", admitted List, "but I wanted to make sure that all our employees were interested. I'm pleased to say they jumped at the chance."

However, Linda Smith of Comtact thought there might be an ulterior motive; "I think Dominic's plan is that the more Ferrari's we see; the harder we'll work to own one!"

But with the Ferrari race cars achieving only a 3rd in their respective class and a diesel powered Audi coming 1st overall, List joked: "Well the guys would be very happy with a Diesel Audi for a company car then."

Given the speed at which Comtact is setting the pace for rollout of Hosted VoIP, dreams of owning supercars may not be too far away.
