18/06/10 - Comtacts's F2 Sponsor Jolyon Palmer Looking to Stretch his Lead at Zolder
Comtact-backed Jolyon Palmer will be looking to consolidate his championship lead when rounds seven and eight of the FIA Formula Two Championship take place in Zolder, Belgium, this weekend (18-20 July).
Palmer returned to the summit of the standings after claiming a stunning double victory at Monza last time out and he now holds a 12 point lead over his compatriot Dean Stoneman. 19-year-old Palmer had already made history when taking his maiden win in the series at the opening round of the season in Silverstone - becoming the first Briton to win an F2 race since his father Jonathan won in Mugello, Italy, back in 1983.
Now Palmer is bidding to win the F2 title and he will be hoping to continue his current form at Zolder this weekend.
01/06/10 - How Green are you?
This week it is International Green IT Awareness Week, so we thought it was a perfect opportunity to look at your IT network and see how small changes and improvements to your network can make a difference. Saving energy is actually one of the easiest ways to reduce costs, while at the same time it will enhance your business reputation as people now want to invest in companies with environmentally friendly policies and production methods.
Comtact's specialised Green IT team are able to advise on ways in which you can become more green and to assist your company to reduce its carbon footprint. From setting your staff up to work from home to virtualisation and data centres, by making small changes to your office processes you can not only do your bit to help the environment but also make some significant savings that can be re-invested back into your business and increase productivity in your staff.
Below are some examples of how small changes can make a big difference to your bottom line:
- Simply by switching off computers at night and weekends energy consumption can be reduced by 75% a year
- Turning your thermostat down by just 1°C can knock 10% off the cost of heating your office and you'll be unlikely to notice any difference in comfort. This won't cost you anything and could save your company between £15-£30 a year (the statutory aim for office temperature is 19°C)
- Lighting an empty office overnight wastes enough energy to heat water for 1000 cups of coffee
- Switching off all non-essential office equipment (computers, printers, faxes, photocopiers and lights) will save enough energy to drive a small car 100 miles
- A PC monitor left on overnight wastes enough energy to laser print 800 pages
- A PC left running for 24 hours per day will use £70 worth of electricity over 12 months - so in a company with 50 computers that would be on average £3500 per annum
- A photocopier left on overnight wastes enough energy to print 1500 A4 copies
Our generation is producing and disposing of more and more goods than ever before. We're also exploiting and consuming more of the world's finite resources. An inevitable consequence of this is that we are producing increasing levels of global warming gases such as carbon dioxide. We all want to do our bit to protect the environment not only for ourselves but for our future generations as well, why not start today.

27/05/10 - Jolyon Palmer Leading the Way in the F2 Championship
After two clear wins at the weekend, Jolyon Palmer, sponsored by Comtact, is set to be the one to beat this season in the F2
Palmers two clear wins at the weekend and one at Silverstone has catapulted the young star to pole position in the leadership charts, with a clear 12 point win over the second placed competitor.
Palmer's third win of the season now gives him a 12 point advantage in the overall standings. Palmer says; "This win was more straightforward than yesterday's: there was no safety car, and I just managed to find another gear to drive to the chequered flag. At Marrakech I think Philipp and Dean both thought it was a two horse race for the championship - it's obviously not, I've had a great weekend and it proves the championship is very open. It's great to be leading at this stage but there's a long way to go."
Dominic List, MD of Comtact ‘Jolyon has had a great start to the season, its only his second season within F2, so its a remarkable achievement for a young driver. Myself and the team at Comtact are avid watchers of the F2 and are pleased to be sponsoring the rising star of F2.'

Next stop was Marrakech where he qualified on the front row and was running second when he had to retire, though he finished fifth in the second race to now be third in the championship.

I am proud of my father's Formula 1 achievements and I hope to follow in his footsteps. Without the support of companies like Comtact this dream wouldn't be possible for me and many other drivers. 28/09/09 - Comtact Technical Team Manager in 10K Loch Ness Marathon in aid of the Help for Heroes Charity(1).jpeg)
Comtact ltd: In complete contrast to Lee Robertson's story, Technical Team Manager, David Morgan a self confessed couch potato, whose previous idea of exercise was Wii bowling, will be taking part in a 10K run along the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland on the 4th October 2009 in aid of the "Help for Hero's" charity.
Help for heroes provides facilities and direct support to those servicemen and women wounded in the line of duty in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is no small feat for a man who hasn't done any exercise since the egg and spoon race on sports day in Secondary school but with grit, determination and bribes of an exotic holiday from his wife, he's knuckled down to some serious training and is now ready to take on the 10K run and Nessie if she shows up.

08/02/2008 - 'Old Guard' going strong
Dominic List, Managing Director of London based reseller Comtact says that in the sub 24 extension PBX market, his company is finding that whilst the old guard (in technology terms) such as Avaya and Mitel are still very strong, which may be down to the resellers experience driving these brands, rather than the respective strengths of the products.
However there does seem to be a continued erosion from the soft switches such as Aastra and to a larger extent Asterix. We are also finding in the sub 10 users that companies are still trying out hosted solutions, to a varying degree of success.
Currently this market still seems quite buoyant and we have no reason to doubt that even in what is promising to be a cooler 2008 that this will continue.
Presence and Outlook integration are still key features in this market, as are the ability for remote VoIP enabled teleworkers. However, so far we have seen no incidences of Microsoft enabled PBX's direct from the manufacturer, although we have seen third party call centre products developed on Microsoft platforms continuing to take market share in this section of the market.

20/11/2007 - Fixed Mobile Convergence - Reseller Feedback
Dominic List - Comtact LtdDominic List, Managing Director of London based reseller Comtact, "In relation to FMC demand, most organisations have shown solid interest, primarily due to the benefit that it would reduce mobile call spend which accounts for a large part of their telecoms and IT spend.
Prospective clients are looking with interest as to which is the most suitable solution to go - either Wi-Fi or GSM technology, both of which have their respective merits and pitfalls. Currently, there has been little uptake due to the faults associated with such a bleeding edge technology, however we believe it will become a prime item of interest in 2008."

13/08/2007 - Broadband Providers not delivering speeds for consumers
Recent research by consumer group Which? Has found that broadband package providers are failing to deliver the connection speeds which they offer to customers.
The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has already investigated several cases of misleading advertising whereby customers were not informed that speed availability was dependent upon the distance people lived away from the exchange.
It is expected that with BTs forthcoming 21st Century Network programme which will begin implementation in early 2008, will more than resolve this issue, also providing treble the maximum speed of 8Mbps currently available today.

01/02/2007 - Industry leaders start moving away from 0870
Over the last month, research by Comtact has found that more and more UK companies are starting to consider the potential impact of having an 0870 phone number.
After Ofcom recently confirmed their decision to end call rebates on 0870 prefix numbers, Comtact has found a surge in the number of enquiries from businesses that had recently visited their website nomore0870.co.uk, a site dedicated to helping organisations find the right alternative.
In light of this regulatory change as well as the negative consumer publicity that has surrounded the use of 0870, some of the UK's largest companies including an international consumer products company and the UK's fastest growing insurance firm have decided to migrate away from 0870 to 0871 & 0844 respectively.

20/06/2006 - Comtact Attends Le Mans 24hours.
Le MansAfter the last six months of fruitful hard work, MD Dominic List thought it was about time that the Comtact team were treated to even more than their usual commission payments.
The Le Mans 24 Hour Race is unquestionably the ultimate test of racing drivers, race cars and spectators – the latter having to endure eight hour "Gumball" style drives to the event, baking heat, squalid toilet facilities and copious amounts of French beer. A hard life but someone has to do it.
"There are a lot of car enthusiasts in the company", admitted List, "but I wanted to make sure that all our employees were interested. I'm pleased to say they jumped at the chance."
However, Linda Smith of Comtact thought there might be an ulterior motive; "I think Dominic's plan is that the more Ferrari's we see; the harder we'll work to own one!"
But with the Ferrari race cars achieving only a 3rd in their respective class and a diesel powered Audi coming 1st overall, List joked: "Well the guys would be very happy with a Diesel Audi for a company car then."
Given the speed at which Comtact is setting the pace for rollout of Hosted VoIP, dreams of owning supercars may not be too far away.

What would happen if your business were involved in a major incident?
